Wrecking Ball

Berlin, 2025

wrecking ball or demolition ball is a heavy steel ball, usually hung from a crane, that is used for demolishing large buildings. They were most commonly in use during the 1940s and 1950s for destroying brick and concrete structures as well as for breaking up concrete roads and runways and for use in quarries.
The wrecking ball has been described as "one of the most common forms of large-scale coarse demolition." With the invention of hydraulic excavators and other machinery, the wrecking ball has become less common at demolition sites as its working efficiency is less than that of long reach excavators.
You can refer to something or someone that is very destructive as a wrecking ball. An example is Bruce Springsteen's song, Wrecking Ball which represents the symbol of  implacable forces that have wrecked the economy for millions of people.
