interventions: Billion Year Old Water

A pocket of water, 2.6 billion years old has been found in a mine 2 miles below the Earth's surface. This water is far older than the dawn of multicellular life. It is possible that ancient life might be found deep underground not only on Earth, but possibly on elsewhere such as Mars, Geoscientists have investigated deep mines across the world since the 1980s. Water can flow into fractures in rocks and becoming isolated deep in the crust for many years. These pockets or capsules can show us what their environments were like at the time they were sealed off. (from Live Science, May 2013)
